In this story I’m going to show you a super easy way to transfer all your email content from one hosting to another without having to use any tool or software.

This happened to me dozens of times in the past, having to move from one hosting to another, migrate the website, transfer the DNS records… and then, migrate the email. Oh no, a lot of mailboxes, how can be done in an easy way?

Remember that in my last story I showed you how to get a free business email hosting. Check it out here.

Requirements

The only thing you need to know is that both mailboxes (source and target) should be accessible by some kind of URL or IP. You can change the MX record once you want, but at least you need to be able to access both of them at the same time when doing the migration.

Then, you need the connection parameters: server URL, username and password. Any account with IMAP or POP3 can be migrated, so let’s start!

OVH Mail Migrator Tool

OVH created this amazing tool that will get your mail from one box and put it in another box. That’s it. That simple. How is this process done?

Navigate to https://omm.ovh.net/. You will be able to create a new migration or check how an old one is doing if you have the migration ID and the source mail. Let’s go ahead and create a new migration.

Now, fill in the fields shown there selecting the “server type” first. Some specific migrations have been done for the Exchange mailboxes and others.

After filling in all the fields, select the options you want to migrate, add a personal mail (where you will be notified about the migration), accept the terms and “Start migration”. You are done.

Large inbox? No worries, you will get notified when the process is done.

Do not forget to change the MX record or you will keep receiving you email in the old inbox.

Have a happy day!
